The Necessity of Revival

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you. Acts 3:19-20

Truth is very easily dissipated from a generation if revival is unknown to it. Where there is the absence of true revival, the Church of Jesus Christ will gain little territory. The Church gains ground over the kingdom’s of this world through outpourings of the Holy Spirit. We may infiltrate the enemy’s territory on a small scale by pulling “brands from the fire” here and there, but only a genuine Holy Ghost outpouring will bring in a net bursting with fish.

Ezekiel saw a river flowing from under the altar, increasing in depth and bringing life to fish “whithersoever” it flows. I am sure most Christians are familiar with this vision and John’s corresponding vision in the Book of Revelation; but how many truly believe it? How many really believe that it is only God the Holy Spirit that sweeps lives into the Kingdom of God? It is only the life that flows out of death that has power to raise the dead, to bring life “whithersoever it goes“. Only as we fully identify with that life which flows out of death, can we know an outpouring of the Holy Ghost in our day; for the Life of God flows to mankind only as a result of Jesus giving up His life on the altar of Calvary.
Do we fully realise that we are totally dependent on the Life of God, upon the Holy Spirit, to bring life to dead souls? And do we realise that as Jesus had to fall into the ground and die in order that He may receive the promised Holy Ghost, that we too are totally depended on Him to baptise people with the Holy Ghost?
Our role is to seek Him and ask Him to do so, and to believe that He will. But God will only do so when we come off all other ground, off all other helps, and believe Him. Jesus depended utterly in God the Father to raise Him from the dead, He had no other hope. Jesus believed God would raise Him from the dead. That is the kind of faith God requires of all His children - total reliance on Him. A faith that believes God will raise the dead.
“He that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.“ “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
All other hope must be cast out if we are to see an outpouring of the Holy Ghost in this generation. We must look-off unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of faith. We must press past and beyond all that which has neutralised us and this generation, all that which is other and less than God intends for His people. There must be a rising up and a breaking through it all - a violence against all that says it cannot be. For as God is God, and as all power in heaven and in earth is given unto Jesus Christ, it shall be - if we will believe. “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”
